What symbolizes Thassos for Kavala is the continued ability of regeneration. From Keramoti Nestos is the easiest access to the island with every half hour in summer and every hour in winter by ferry from Kavala the port of Thassos. The distance is short and the journey takes just 30 to 35 minutes.

Getting out of the natural bay of Keramoti you see the fantastic turquoise waters, reaching Thassos you see in the distance distinguished houses and buildings at the port and wooded mountain “Ypsario” (1,127 meters altitude). The island looks like paradise on earth. Is called the green island of Northern Aegean. Old trees, firs and pines, arbutus, olives filled canyons, slopes and small valleys springing the picturesque beaches. The nature of Thassos is the unrivaled advantage of the island. Rarely Aegean island had so many, yet so different in their composition and sandy beaches. The mountain with lush pine reaching the sandy beaches. Unfortunately some small parts of the forest has been affected by forest fires, although the forest regenerate with great speed and returns to its previous lush vegetation. Mounting the pine forest the present  of pine, oregano, thyme and other herbs scent the air while up to a certain height the olive and pine trees interchanged.

The cicadas and crickets accompany you throughout the way. Near the capital port is Makryammos, an area that has a crystal aquamarine and extensive bay with a fine sandy beach. Leaving from the port continuing right pass by Makryammos to the traditional village of Panagia you will see on the plateau at the end of the climb the spectacular views of the Golden Beach. Among a large valley and mountain folds a huge beach and a calm blue-green bay. The sandy beach stretches 3.5 km in length at Skala-Panagia you find an organized camping and between broadleaved trees are organized units mainly small hotels that can offer family amenities to vacationers. Both Panagia and Potamia are the most historic villages of Thassos. Both villages are built in traditional style with stone slate roofs, beautiful corners and small chapels. At the square of Panagia visitors can relax, or have lunch under the perennial plane trees. In Potamia you can visit the museum of the distinguished sculptor Polygnotos Vagis (who worked and excelled particularly in the US).

Continuing your way south you reach the beach of Kinira. Those who love the exotic beaches in Kinira their will find a nice beach with white fine sand and green waters. Because of the low sea deep it remains always idyllic green. In front of the shore is a small island that makes the beach more intimate and friendly, while on the coast of Kinira and of Paradise the waters are crystal clear and shallow and the waves that contribute to the exotic image of the beach. The coastline from this point up to the cape Kefalas alternates between the more rugged and the tamer version of the landscape. Hidden sandy beaches succeed steep cliffs and landscape with olive groves and pine.

At Alikes ancient findings are reconciled with the voices of visitors and bathers offer swimming in a crystal clear sea, where protection from the sun are pine trees and not artificial umbrellas. The ancient and medieval-Byzantine findings show that the area was an important settlement probably abandoned during the pirate raids in the 7th or 8th. AD. You will find ruins of a temple and two churches, while in the area operated an ancient quarry. Hanging on the rock with background dazzling blue Aegean the Monastery of Archangel Michael is a surprise for the traveler taken the turn not expecting to see. The landscape in southern Thassos are rocky and arid, pine trees makes a break in the frequency of its appearance and the beaches monopolize the interest of visitors. Astris, Potos and Pefkari are the beaches you meet on the way to Limenaria.

The village of Theologos is the largest village on the south side of the island with a rich tradition, history and a presence in the region from ancient times. The village was not hit by piracy as it is built at point that is indistinguishable from the sea and because it has many abundant waters many residents of Thassos found in Theologos refuge. Theologos played an influential role in the history of the island, especially during the Turkish destructive occupation. It is the birthplace of many Thassinians, which emerged in the political and cultural life of Greece. Preserved many examples of traditional architecture among them, the mansion, the first President of Thassos at the period of Egyptian occupation and the leader of the Revolution Metaxas Hatzigiorgi.

Limenaria (2441 inhabitants) for years was the rival of Limena (3130 inhabitants) the most populous settlement of the island after the capital. The port of the settlement was developed especially after 1903, when the German businessman Fr.. Speintel undertook the mining of lead-silver and calamine, which operated for many years.

In Vathi - Limenari  are the offices of the company that survive to this day called Palataki (small castle). The cape Kefalas (here lived until 1970 the Mediterranean Seal) is Thassos southern end meeting the west part of Thassos which has developed five vibrant villages, Maries and the Skala-Maries is the first village you find on the peripheral road of the island. Skala-Maries is best known today, only a few visit the mountain village Maries. Continuing the villages Kallirachi and Skala–Kallirachi, Sotiras and Skala–Sotiras which are close to the ferry from Kavala, New Peramos, above the mountain the  Kazaviti village build in a mountain gorge surrounded by trees and green so it’s not visible from the sea to avoid in past the pirates.   

Finally, the villages on the western side of Thassos ends with Rahoni and Skala-Rahoni. Thassos is the island that does not hide anything. The road hugs the whole island and make it accessible to everyone. The ring road of the island is in good condition and visitors with cars & motorcycles can reach every corner and beach.
